The much awaited proposal of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP Government to procure 1000 low floor buses under Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and 650 buses under Cluster scheme has been finally approved by Delhi Cabinet on Thursday.
The 1000 buses are expected to ply on the roads by May 2020. Further, the procurement of 1000 standard floor buses under cluster scheme is under process and 25 per cent of the buses will be added in July and the remaining will be in use for public by December.
The cabinet, in its meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal approved schedule for bringing 4,000 new buses on Delhi roads. Currently there are 5,500 buses in the national Capital including both DTC and Cluster. With the procurement of 4,000 buses, the fleet of Delhi Public Transport will grow to 9,500 buses.
“The 1,000 Standard floor cluster buses will start coming from July itself and the full delivery would be completed by December this year. Tender for 1,000 electric buses has been done and will be opened on August 02.
All the 1000 electric buses would be on Delhi roads by April 2020 staring from January 2020,” said Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
Of the 1,000 low floor cluster buses which are to be added to the public transport fleet of Delhi, cabinet has approved the proposal to award tender for 650 buses.
“The tender for the buses under cluster scheme will be awarded 15-days. The tender for the rest of the 350 buses will be opened on July 19, 2019. These 1,000 low floor cluster buses will start coming from December 2019 in batch of 165 every month and will be completed by April 2020,” said Sisodia.
