CAIT to release National Charter of Traders

Monday, 25 March 2019 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

nAhead of General Election, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has decided to release a ‘National Charter of Traders’ carrying core issues of the trading community and whichever political party gives a logical roadmap of solutions, the traders will vote for that party as one unit across the country.

CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal while addressing a trader’s conference at New Delhi said that almost seven crore traders across the Country have now converted into a vote Bank due to a two month national campaign of the CAIT under the slogan “ One Nation-One Trader-Ten Votes”.

“More than 500 trade conferences were held across the Country by local trade bodies in different states in last two months which make the traders realise to join hands together as a Vote Bank and will vote en-block in forthcoming elections,” he said.

Hitting out at Congress, he said that after independence, the party has ruled the country for a long time and in such a long tenure the trading community was never on priority of the Government or for Congress party.

“It is highly regretted that it is during long tenure of the Congress that the situation of traders have been deteriorated to a great extent which is still continued,” he said.

He further said that in 1947 when the country became independent there were about 30 lakh traders which have been rose to more than seven Crore today providing employment to nearly 30 crore people in the country and generating an annual turnover of Rs 42 lakh crores with an average 10 per cent growth every year.

This one of the most important vertical of economy always remained neglected and no steps were taken to ensure systematic growth of domestic trade in the Country, he said.

The traders’ body also criticised Congress President Rahul Gandhi for his statement made a few days ago that if Congress is voted to power, it will abolish Goods and Services Tax (GST) whereas in fact he don’t have any blue print of any alternate tax structure.
