Delhi Customs official has arrested a Canadian woman for allegedly carrying 14 gold bangles worth over Rs 38 lakh at national Capital's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.
According to a senior Customs official, the woman arrived at the Terminal-3 of the IGI airport on Sunday from Dubai.
"The woman was intercepted by Customs officials after she had crossed the Green Channel. She was stopped by official and during personal and detailed search 14 gold bangles weighing 1,110 grams were recovered from the woman," said the senior Customs official.
"The total tariff value of the gold recovered is around Rs 38,44,119. The gold bangles were seized and the woman was arrested under relevant provisions of the Customs Act," said the official. For the purpose of Customs clearance of arriving passengers, a two-channel system has been adopted under which the Green Channel is for passengers not having any dutiable goods, while the Red Channel for those having dutiable goods.
