Cancer Awareness campaign organised

To mark the World Cancer Day, Resident Doctors Association, AIIMS Bhopal organised a Cancer Awareness Drive here on Monday.

On the occasion, various programmes were conducted including poster competition, health talks, exhibition and awareness rally. The event was attended by the public including patients and their relatives and AIIMS administrative and non-medical staffs including Director, AIIMS, Dean (Academics), Medical Superintendent, Deputy Director (Administration), Financial Advisor and Administrative Officer and faculties of various departments.

Prof Dr Sarman Singh, Director of AIIMS Bhopal addressed the general public in the hospital and said that such awareness programmes are the need of the hour. This initiative of Resident Doctors Association was highly appreciated by him and he has encouraged RDA to organize various awareness programs in future as well.

Dr Arneet Arora, Dean (Academics) congratulated RDA for successful organization of such a motivational event. She also motivated RDA to keep organizing such events for the welfare of general public in future.

Dr Manisha Shrivastava, Medical Superintendent was happy to see such an event happening in AIIMS campus. She encouraged RDA to conduct this event every year based on the theme decided by WHO which is “I am and I will.” Health Talks were delivered by Faculty Members of Radiotherapy and Dentistry AIIMS Bhopal.

Dr Manish Gupta, Head, Department of Radiotherapy delivered a talk on warning signs of cancer diseases which will help general public to identify cancer in early stage and seek proper treatment in appropriate time. Dr. Saikat Das, Associate Professor, Department of Radiotherapy delivered a talk on importance of detecting cancer in early stages. Dr Anshul Rai, Associate Professor, Department of Dentistry addressed general public regarding adverse effect of tobacco and its association with oral cancer. He urged people to take an oath regarding quitting tobacco and asking other also to quit.

Dr Anuj Jain, President, Resident Doctors Association, addressed the public and informed that approximately 14 million people are affected by cancer every year. He also said that RDA is committed to organize series of public awareness programs and this event was the first installment. Santosh Sohgaura, Deputy Director (Administration), AIIMS Bhopal propoed a vote of thanks to various Faculty Members, dignitaries and the patients attending the event and congratulated RDA for their hard work in making this event a success.

After the health talks, a cancer awareness rally was conducted by Resident Doctors association in which members of RDA AIIMS Bhopal, faculties, nursing staffs and patients with their relatives took part.

The rally was flagged off by Director, AIIMS Bhopal. Rally started from OPD entrance gate up to Sagar Public School, Saket Nagar and ended again at OPD gate of AIIMS Bhopal. At the end of the rally refreshments were arranged for the patients and relatives who participated in the event.
