Police registered about 400 cases of smuggling of cannabis in Bastar region and seized about 38,000 kg of the contraband worth around Rs 14 crore between 2015 and June 2019, home minister Tamradhwaj Sahu said in a written reply during the monsoon session of the state legislative assembly on Tuesday.
The minister was replying to a question raised by Congress legislator from Jagdalpur, Rekhchand Jain.
In all, 395 cases were registered between 2015 and June 2019. The market value of the seized cannabis was Rs 13.93 crore, the minister said.
He further informed that to stop illegal cannabis farming no joint operation was being carried out, but constant monitoring was being done by the police stations located on the borders of both the states.
