Carjacker from Manipur arrested

The Delhi Police has arrested a notorious carjacker who used to fly to Delhi and after committing the crime used to return back to Manipur with the stolen vehicle. Police said almost a dozen of stolen cars have been recovered from the possession of the accused in Manipur.

The accused has been identified as Mohammad Ajish Khan (27), a resident of Manipur's Thoubal district. According to Jasmeet Singh, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), East district, after receiving specific inputs regarding the accused, he was arrested on October 12 while he was driving a stolen car at NH-24.

"He is member of an auto-lifting gang operating in Manipur has been arrested for selling luxury vehicles using forged documents with the help of his associates in the Delhi- NCR," said the DCP.

"Khan, along with his associates, would come here to take luxury cars from auto lifters operating in the Delhi-NCR and later deliver the vehicles to the kingpin, Juma Khan, in Manipur," said the DCP.

"Members of insurgent groups of Manipur and other north-eastern states were among the buyers of these cars. The gang used to lift around 15 cars every month and they have transported more than 100 cars to Manipur so far," said the DCP

"With his arrest, 11 stolen high end luxurious cars worth Rs 2 crores have been recovered in Imphal and Delhi.  The accused during interrogation, disclosed that Juma Khan tampered the chassis number and got the vehicle registered with transport authorities in Manipur and Nagaland on the basis of forged documents," said the DCP.

"Role of officers of transport authorities cannot be ruled out as further investigation is going on. Raids were conducted at various places in Manipur but the operation was initially interrupted due to activities of underground groups," the DCP added.
