The Central Electricity Supply Utility (Cesu) conducted a special drive in the quarters of its own staff at Power House Colony here on Monday.
A squad led by Cesu Chief Vigilance Officer Brahmananda Dandpat conducted checking of the meters in the quarters.
The Additional Vigilance Officer along with Junior Engineers and MRT Squad of BCDD-I participated in the exercise.
During the operation, meters of 20 official quarters and two office premises were checked.
Tampering of meters was detected in two cases. In one case, the consumer was using energy more than its contract demand. After the operation, penalty amount of Rs 45,200 was imposed on defaulting customers. 10 KW extra load was also enhanced.
Departmental action would be taken against them, said an official release.
It said the Cesu is incurring huge losses due to power theft which is above national average. It has enhanced its efforts to curb such power theft and reduce losses.
The Cesu has requested citizens to help in its anti theft drive and pass information on mobile number-9437158670 by SMS and WhatsApp. The Utility has adopted a scheme to reward the informers by sharing of 10 per cent realized penalty amount.
Recently, 10 informers were rewarded with a total amount of Rs 28,400 on a day here.
