Challans will be sent to traffic rules violators on mobile

Saturday, 23 March 2019 | GAYATHI MANI | NEW DELHI

Beware while jumping red light, overspeeding, use of wrong carriage, rash and reckless driving, as Delhi Transport Department along with the Delhi Traffic Police is going to start a ‘Smart Prosecution’ to catch the traffic rules violators in national Capital.

Under this new initiative, the challan and prosecution will be sent to the owner of the vehicle on their mobile phones within few seconds of traffic violation with inputs of time, locations, venue and traffic rule violation.

“Currently, if any driver or commuter violates the traffic norms, notice/challans are sent to them through speed post but now the notice will be sent to their whatsapp, text messages and E-mail with a picture of their vehicle violating the norms, time and location,” said Anil Chhikara, Transport expert

“Moreover, an online payment mode system will also be created for the violators where they can pay the fine from anywhere without going any challan pay center. The project will have real-time integration of traffic police challans with Sarthi and Vahan database. Database of repeat offenders will be made through this system which will help traffic police personnel to check the previous history of traffic violations. The new system will also reduce accidents,” said Chhikara.

Officials at Transport department said that they have the mobile numbers of around 30 lakhs vehicle owners. “We have the data of mobile numbers and we are also reviewing the mobile numbers registered with State Transport Authority (STA). The vehicle owner has to update their number if they have changed to another network.

Further, the registration of current mobile number of vehicle owners will be made compulsory at the Pollution under Control (PUC) testing centre. Further, public advertisement will also be issued” said an official.

The smart prosecution system will be made functional from May-June.
