The Branch Office of National Investigation Agency (NIA) at Chandigarh located near Model Jail, Sector-51, Chandigarh was inaugurated on Friday by Y. C. Modi, Director General, NIA in the presence of DGPs of Punjab and Haryana.
The event was attended by senior police officers of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh Administration, Central Armed Police Forces, Indian Army and other government agencies. NIA was created with a mandate to investigate offences related to terrorist activities and other crimes having national and international importance. It started functioning from the January 19, 2009.
