Construction of the three chariots Nandighosh of Lord Jagannath, Taladhwaj of Lord Balabhadra and Debadala of Devi Subhadra, is now going on in full swing ahead of the coming annual Rath Yatra here on July 4.
The work began soon after the power supply in the holy town, which was battered by Cyclone Fani on May 3, was restored partially.
Due to unavailability of electricity, large logs could not be sliced as per requirement for the construction of the chariots. Now, the temple carpenters and Rupakar servitors have begun work.
While nine ‘Tumba’ and ‘Bindha’ works for the Nandighosh Rath have been completed, construction of six ‘Tumba’ of the Taladhwaja and five ‘Tumba’ of Debadalana chariot are almost over. Similarly, ‘Kanaguja’ work of the three chariots has begun from Nrusingha Chaturdashi.
Chief carpenters, Bijaya Kumar Mohapatra and Narasingha Mohapatra are supervising the works. Bhoi servitors are supplying logs of different sizes for the construction of wheels of all the three chariots.
