Roads within the limits of Chas Municipal Corporation (CMC) area are soon to be lit-up with energy-efficient LED street lights. CMC is at work to install 15,000 street lights before this Diwali, informed Bholu Paswan Mayor of CMC.

“On the main roads, 120 watts LED street lights will be installed, while on bypass 75W and in the ward areas roads would be lit-up with 40W LED street lights,” added the Mayor.

“We are committed to turning Chas into a slum-free city and on move to turn the city into ‘hut free’ zone. People residing in the slum or are homeless will be shifted into apartments,” he said.

“Our aim is to bring the existing slums within the formal system and enabling them to avail the basic amenities that are available for the city residents,” he said.

“A detailed work plan is ready and we are planning to assume that by the end of 2022, said Mayor adding. We are at work, there would be no single hut in Chas,” he said.

The Mayor further said that apartments would be constructed at Kalapathar as transit blocks and people residing in the slum or homeless will be shifted in those apartments. A market complex is also proposed to come up at that site, he added.

“We have also planned to settle down 760 urban homeless people under Prime Minister Aawas Yojna (Urban). The layout of apartments has been ready, with an investment of Rs 56 crore apartments would be constructed at Kalapathar and Kamaldih in the next two years,” he said.

“Houses would come-up on four acres of land at Kalapathar and one acre of land at Kamaldih where 540 and 220 homeless would be settled. Each house will have a bedroom, dining room, kitchen and bathroom,” he added.

This housing scheme will consider economically weaker BPL as well as APL categories only, and their annual income should not be exceeded than 3 lakhs rupees, he said

.“The most important thing is that the beneficiary should not have a pucca house is his or her name, or in the name of any of his or her family in any part of India,” he said.
