Chhath is a unique festival of worshipping the sun god and his wife Usha. The beauty and the importance it holds are unique in its own way. It not only holds religious importance but it is also important from the viewpoint of cleanliness and protection of the environment.

Devotees clean their surroundings, rivers, ponds and lakes. Like in other parts of the country, the festival is celebrated by the people of Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh in Uttarakhand.

In the picturesque Doon valley too, this festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm.

Because of its distinctive belief in celebrating protection of environment, cleaning the surroundings to maintaining health and hygiene, The Sulabh International too participated in the cleanliness drive organised by Bihari Mahasabha at Tapkeshar temple on Saturday. According to Bihari Mahasabha, more than 12 members of Sulabh International reached Tapkeshwar temple at 8 am to participate in the cleanliness drive. The in-charge of Sulabh International, Uttarakhand, Satish Chandra Patel and his team played a major role in cleaning the banks of Tamsa river.

Other than the members of Sulabh International and Bihari Mahasabha, locals also participated in the cleanliness drive with full vigour. Not only cleaning but few families also celebrated the festival.

Governor of Uttarakhand ,Baby Rani Maurya, has congratulated the people of the State on the occasion of Chhath.

In her message, she said, “Along with worshiping the sun god, this festival also inspires people to clean and protect their surrounding rivers, ponds and lakes.”

“It is the festival of nature worship and helps realise the importance of protecting the environment.” she added.

Chhath is majorly celebrated in Bihar, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and few parts of Nepal.
