Delhi Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Dev visited the office of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Monday and assured his support for the Commission. He stated that additional space shall be provided to the Commission on priority basis, as DCW chief Swati Maliwal informed him of the severe space crunch and shortage of staff.
“I am very thankful to Chief Secretary that he took out some time to visit the Commission from his busy schedule. He is the first Chief Secretary in the history of Delhi to visit the Commission. I look forward to his constant support and guidance,” Maliwal said.
During the visit, DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal said the Commission has dealt with 52,473 complaints in three years which is an annual increase of over 700 per cent compared with the work done by the previous Commission in 8 years.
She said that the Commission made over 800 visits to various shelter homes, communities, rape survivors and over 175 policy recommendations were submitted to the Government.
Through its Rape Crisis Cell, the Commission disclosed that they have assisted survivors of sexual assault in 35,606 hearings in the court in the past 3 years and 11,670 sexual assault survivors were counseled by the Crisis Intervention Centre counselors and 6,952 FIRs of sexual assault and sexual harassment registered after intervention of the Commission in the past 3 years.
