City gears up for Durga Puja

Saturday, 31 August 2019 | PNS | Ranchi

With just a little over a month left for Durga Puja celebrations to begin in Ranchi, the entire city is gearing up for the 10- day long celebrations. The much awaited pandals will be open to the public from October 4 to October 8. The Ranchi District Durga Puja Committee as well as the district administration has started taking required steps to ensure peaceful and hassle free celebrations.

“Before Durga Puja begins there are meetings held from the grass root level to the higher administration level, which have already started this year. The anti- social elements have also been issued a notice under section 107. The administration has also started working with the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) to ensure that the basic infrastructure is in place before the festivities begin,” said the Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Rai Mahimapat Ray.

The Ranchi District Durga Puja Committee also held its first meeting this year on Sunday, August 25 at Ranchi Press Club. In the meeting problems faced by the organisers were discussed and letters related to the concerned departments were also issued.

“One of the major problems faced by the residents of Ranchi is the encroachment on roads during the festival. The encroachment is generally done by the pandals. Keeping this in mind, RMC has decided to give the parking area in Shradhnand Road for a month for the celebrations. Similar arrangements are also being made at various places,” said Convener Ranchi Durga Puja Committee Munchun Rai

The committee members also met the Urban Development Minister CP Singh in this regard. RMC is also being urged to ensure special cleanliness drives at the various puja pandals which will be set up across the city. The committee has also demanded to identify and fix defunct street lights and also install new ones in areas needed for devotees going pandal hopping at night.

“A meeting with the DC will also take place in September where proper security arrangements at crowded places, posting fire brigades at the various pandals to avoid any mishap, appointing women security guards will be the agenda,” Rai added.
