City paid rich tribute to JRD Tata on his 115th birth anniversary. The highlight of the celebration was traditional static aircraft display at the Sonari aerodrome along with members of Calcutta Aeromodelling Club showcasing a number of remote controlled planes.
Srimanti Sen, social worker inaugurated the aircraft display, aeromodelling and the digital exhibition on JRD Tata at the Sonari aerodrome on Monday. Tata Steel chief of aviation, Ravi Radhakrishnan along with other guests.
More than 500 students from various private and government schools across the city learnt about flying and aircraft models like Bell 429 helicopter, Platus PC12 Cessna 172R; Cessna 152 II; and Super King B200GT and other models of aircrafts. In the JRD Tata inter-school quiz contest Shaunak Goswami from class X and Rohit Verma from class VIII of Little Flower School won the quiz contest organised at the Michael John auditorium . Pranati Thakur and Viprag Kumar, class X students from Loyola School won the second place. The third place was won by class X students of DAV Public School Bistupur- Akash Biswas and Alok Kumar. The winning team bagged a cash prize of Rs 10,000, the first runner-up received Rs 8,000 while the second runner-up bagged Rs 6,000. Both the top teams will also enjoy an aircraft ride at Sonari on Friday. All the finalists were given certificates in the presence of chief guest Sumita Nupur, an educationist and social worker.
Six schools - Little Flower School, Hill Top School, Rajendra Vidyalaya,DAV Public School Bistupur, Loyola School and Little Flower School had made it to the quiz finale.
