Following the arrest of a Koderma based Doctor Seema Modi, radiologists shut down the ultrasonography test for the pregnant women across the Bokaro district for next 72 hours (till June 13) with effect from Tuesday to protest against the high-handed behaviour of officials.
“There are around 100 radiologists in the State who have stopped doing ultrasonography test for the pregnant women from Tuesday and this includes the private and public units,” said Dr Randhir Singh, IMA Chas Bokaro.
The issue is related to the arrest of Dr Seema on the charge of sex determination of a fetus and sealing the center. Dr Seema is practicing as a radiologist in Koderma and she was arrested in a fake case, said Dr Pranay Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA).
“The doctor had done an ultrasonography test on a pregnant woman and had given a report. Nowhere in the report did the doctor mention that the unborn child was a male or a female child since this is banned under the law,” he said.
“Therefore, all the radiologists from the association have decided to shut down the ultrasonography test for the pregnant women till 13 June since it has become difficult to work in this atmosphere of fear and harassment,” Dr Pranay added.
The State Health Minister asked the official to submit a report within 72 hours after investigation but officials yet to submit the report, he said.
