City records five malaria, 2 dengue cases last week

The Capital has witnessed five fresh cases of malaria and two of dengue in last week, taking the total number of patients suffering from the vector borne diseases to 17 and 47 respectively.

Out of total cases of dengue, 29 diagnosed belong to other states, according to a data released by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Monday.

As per the weekly data released by the SDMC, ‘all the three civic bodies north, east and south corporations has found mosquito breeding in 9913 households in the city till May 18.

The report further stated that 11630 legal notices have been served to owners of houses, hotels and others for various violations and 480prosecutions initiated till May 18. Among the areas falling under the three municipal corporations, the cases of breeding reported were from areas of north, south and east corporations are 2588, 5729 and 1596 respectively, the report said.

The cases of vector-borne diseases are reported between July and November but this year civic body has traced many cases in months of March and April.

 With spurt in number of cases, civic bodies have stepped up awareness campaign and deployed Dengue Breeding Checkers (DBCs) in various wards in order to check breeding and advising people to take precautionary measures. Meanwhile, doctors of the Government hospitals have advised to take precautions like using mosquito repellents, wear clothes which cover your full body and avoid places that are more prone to the diseases.

According to the SDMC, 10 people had died due to dengue in Delhi in 2017, of which five were not residents of the national capital. Overall, the vector-borne disease had affected 9,271 people in the city last year.
