The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital which was closed after water seeped into it, would become operational on Tuesday. The Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital, Dr K K Tamta said that the leakage has been repaired and a new pipe line has been laid in the ICU. “We have detected the problem and sorted it out. We have placed the beds again in the ICU and from Tuesday the ICU would start functioning normally.’’
It is pertinent to mention here that on July 24, the administration and the patients faced problems when water leakage was reported in the ICU. The leakage in was detected and repaired then. However on August 15, the leakage resurfaced which forced the hospital authorities to shift two beds out from the ICU. The problem however aggravated later and the hospital administration was forced to shift all the patients from the ICU. The administration now claims that it has fixed the problem and the ICU would start functioning again from Tuesday.
The ICU in the GDMC hospital has five beds. Interestingly apart from All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Rishikesh, the ICU of GDMC hospital is the only facility in government sector in Dehradun.
