Taking cognisance of the recent case of mobile phones being found in Hridwar district jail, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that the jammers are proving ineffective against the operation of mobile phones in jails. He further said that an alternate method to find the solution to this problem will be devised.
While interacting with the media at the sidelines of an event, the CM was asked about the cases of inmates having mobile phones inside the jail premises and threatening people on the outside for ransom money.
The CM said that the already installed jammers are not giving successful results.
It is pertinent to mention here in the murder case of Shekhar Chandra Dhaundiyal, who was shot by unidentified shooters on August 13 in Kotdwar, it was found that the accused shooters were asked to meet accused Narendra Valmiki and Rupesh Tyagi, both were then serving time at Pauri district prison. They had then contracted the accused shooters to threaten the people who are working at a cable network office and fire at the operator present there for which they then provided the shooters with the gun and other necessary items from Roorkee.
During the initial interrogation with the accused shooters, they revealed they were in contact with convicts serving time at the prison throughout the crime and even after that through WhatsApp messenger.
This year, in the previous month alone there have been two separate incidents in Haridwar jail wherein mobile phones were seized from inmates.
