After conducting an inspection of the old trenching ground at Sahastradhara Road, the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat issued directions to the officials concerned to make a detailed project report (DPR) for the modern park and the parking space that will be developed at the site of the old trenching ground.
While inspecting the site along with Dehradun Mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ and officials, the CM said that the planned park will be developed as a major tourist spot of Dehradun. It will not only enhance tourism in the city, but also will be beneficial for the river Saung which is being polluted by the chemicals that the old trenching ground is releasing.
Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ said, “The purpose of the inspection was to discuss the development of the old trenching ground in to a modern park from the tourism point of view. The CM spoke to senior officials concerning the cleaning procedure and other details. A DPR will be prepared by the Urban Development Directorate.”
It is pertinent to mention here that locals from the area earlier used to complain about the foul smell which used to come from the trenching ground. Also, several environmentalists have raised questions about the number of ways that the old trenching ground is negatively affecting the environment, which were never properly addressed by the officials concerned.
