CM inaugurates National Games secretariat in Doon

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat reviewed preparations for the 38th national games proposed to be held in Uttarakhand in 2021. He also inaugurated the national games secretariat at Maharana Pratap Sports College.

Rawat said that all preparations for the national games should be completed within the fixed time frame. For the national games proposed in November 2021, all preparations should be made by October 2020, he directed. Monthly work targets should be fixed and also reviewed monthly. The status of proposals sent to the Government of India for financial assistance should also be monitored consistently.

The work plan should be made keeping the monsoon season in mind. Works for the national games should be undertaken in coordination with experts and sports bodies. The state should also benefit from the experience of states were the national games were held in the past.

It should be mentioned here that 34 sports competitions will be held in the national games. These will be held across 14 days in Dehradun, Haldwani, Haridwar, Gularbhoj, Rishikesh, Nainital and Rudrapur. Fifteen sports will be held in Dehradun, eight will be held in Haldwani while boxing will be organised in Pithoragarh.

A sports village each will be built in Dehradun and Haldwani.

The facility in Dehradun will have capacity for 8,000 players and officials while the one in Haldwani will have capacity for 4,000 players and officials. The Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Arvind Pandey was also present on the occasion.
