Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday met Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in New Delhi and requested him to develop an “aviation hub” in Raipur.
Drawing Union Minister's attention to the demand, Baghel said that Raipur has the potential of becoming the country’s aviation hub. It is well-connected from all directions due to its geographical position. He added that at present, 11 cities have direct connectivity to Raipur and 24 flights are operational from the airport daily.
Chief Minister requested that Raipur city should be declared as the “aviation hub” and the Centre should make provision in the budget for the same. Raipur airport, which was recently being modernized, is well-connected with six neighbouring states of Chhattisgarh.
Union Minister assured Chief Minister that the Centre will provide all possible assistance to the state. On being asked about flights to be operated from Bilaspur and Jagdalpur, Puri said that the work is in progress and flights will be operational from Jagdalpur by November-December.
