The Jamrani dam project has finally received environmental clearance. Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that work on this importance project will now pick up pace after a wait of more than 40 years. The State Government is making serious efforts to execute this long pending scheme on the ground. The Union Government Government also cooperated fully, for which the State is grateful, said Rawat.
Technical advisory committee of the Central Water Commission has granted its approval to the Jamrani project. With this, the resulting execution of work on the project will help resolving the drinking water issue of the local populace. The dam which will be nine kilometres long, 130 metres wide and 485 metres high will generate 14 Mega Watts electricity and also facilitate water for drinking and irrigation purposes. The completion of work on this project will especially facilitate gravity based drinking water supply in Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts.
The total cost of this project is Rs 2,584 crore. The Central Water Commission had granted the technical approval for this project in February 2019. The Forest Department has transferred 351.49 hectare land for this project.
At the State administrative level, approval has been granted for Rs 89 crore for the initial state.
