A memorandum of understanding was signed between Law College Dehradun faculty of Uttaranchal University and Uttarakhand Biodiversity Board (UBB).
The agreement was signed by the university vice chancellor NK Joshi and UBB member secretary Sargam Singh Rasaily.
Following the signing of the MoU, the works will entail designing syllabus for the whole country including Uttarakhand in accordance with Biodiversity Act, 2002, preparing a programme of action for generating awareness related to biodiversity and training law students in different aspects of biodiversity enabling them to become the voice of voiceless like plants and animals.
The college principal Rajesh Bahuguna said that the MoU would prove to be a milestone. Students of the college would explore new opportunities in legal profession while working in this joint project.
In his address, chairman of the UBB, Dhananjai Mohan observed that in recent times, awareness and consciousness of the people and the government has increased considerably regarding biodiversity but it has also exposed the dearth of legal experts in this particular field. He expressed hope that under the MoU special courses and internship programmes would be conducted which would eventually prepare the law students and legal experts in biodiversity.
