On Thursday morning, students of SMJN PG college carried out cleanliness campaign at Govind Ghat and Premnagar Ashram Ghat. Led by the college principal SK Batra, some 40 students cleaned the garbage from the riverbed along its bank.
He said, “Seeing the crystal clear waters of Ganga touching the banks, it seems Ganga was never unclean and can never be unclean, if we are determined. Our negligence has led to the pitiable condition of the Ganga. All those things which contaminate it like old clothes and religious items must be stopped from reaching its waters.”
He further said, “Our students keep carrying out cleanliness drives from time to time and during Ganga canal closure it is much easier. Today the students have carried out cleanliness drive at Govind Ghat and Premnagar Ashram Ghat.”
He exhorted the students to pledge for clean, healthy and garbage free India. He said the citizens of India must come forward in the mission to clean India and clean Ganga. They must make it their own campaign then only can the country remain clean. “If we depend on the municipal corporation and Governments to give us clean surroundings that is next to impossible. One must make Swachchh Bharat one’s own campaign,” he added.
