Saturday, 09 March 2019 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

nOn the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Delhi Police said it is committed for safety and security of women with zero tolerance for crime against women being the utmost priority.

“In the aftermath of incident of December 16, 2012, there was a paradigm shift in dealing with crime against women cases. Free registration was followed which resulted in instant jump in registration of cases of crime against women. The survivors of sexual assault stood up and reported their cases, leading to an unprecedented increase in registration of rape and molestation cases,” said Anil Mittal, Additional Pubic Relation Officer (APRO), Delhi Police.

“Delhi Police has been continuing its special efforts to ensure that women’s grievances are registered immediately and they are treated with respect and sympathy. All 178 territorial Police Stations in all the 15 Districts of Delhi have separate women help desks, run by women officers round the clock, with exclusive direct telephone help lines. All complaints of women are recorded verbatim by police officials and FIRs are registered on all complaints disclosing cognizable offences by applying proper sections of law,” said APRO.

“Woman beat constables have been posted in certain underprivileged colonies to inspire confidence and women are encouraged to come forward to lodge their complaints,” said Mittal.

“For handling women victims of crime, Delhi Police deputed women officers on demand or on call to the ‘One Stop Centre’ established at three hospitals including Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital, Hari Nagar, Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, Mangolpuri, and Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Dilshad Garden by the Health Department of GNCT of Delhi,” said APRO.

In 2018, there has been reduction in cases pertaining to Molestation of Women by 3.16 per cent, insult to the modesty of women by 6.41 percent and rape by 0.51 percent.  Similarly during this year (upto February) there has been decrease in cases of rape by 10.94 per cent, Molestation of Women by 2.56 percent and insult to the modesty of women by 32.97 per cent.
