A programme to commemorate 77 anniversary of Quit India movement was organised at Rajiv Bhawan, the headquarters of state unit of Congress party on Friday. Former President of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), Kishore Upadhyaya unfurled the national flag at the party office in the morning and congratulated the party workers. Addressing the programme, the Vice President of the state Congress, Surya Kant Dhasmana said that the ‘August revolution’ was an important mile stone in the Independence of the country.

He said that Mahatma Gandhi gave a call for complete independence on August 8 and the whole country came out in the streets against the British rule.  Dhasmana said that about one thousand people gave their sacrifice and more than 16000 were imprisoned during this period. On a sarcastic note, the Congress leader claimed that the people who acted as informers of British at that time are now professing patriotism to the Congress party.

Later the party workers took a pledge to strengthen Congress party. The party men also took a ‘ Tiranga Yatra’ on occasion which after passing through many places of the city culminated at Gandhi Park. Senior Congress leaders Survir Singh Sajwan, Garima Dassauni and others were present on the occasion.
