To mark the 75th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister, Late Rajiv Gandhi, the Congress party workers launched a Sadbhawna Yatra led by Congress State party president Preetam Singh from Devpura chowk to Jairam Ashram here on Monday.
Leader of opposition in Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly and other party leaders also participated in the rally. Through the rally, the Congress made an outreach to its party members in the entire country.
A massive turnout of Congress workers raising slogans, hailing the “sacrifice” of Rajiv Gandhi marked the main roads of Haridwar leading to the highway crisscrossing the major intersections in the city.
The Congress party flag was hoisted in Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant park by Congress state party in-charge Anugrah Narayan Singh, leader of opposition in the Vidhan Sabha, Indira Hridyesh and Congress Sewadal state president Rajesh Rastogi followed by singing of Vande Mataram.
Addressing the rally, the party state in-charge said, “On the call made by Rahul Gandhi, the Sadbhawna Yatra has been taken out throughout the country. Rajiv Gandhi had dreamt of 21st century India.
With a spirit of bonhomie, the day is celebrated by Congress party leaders to encourage national integration, peace, love and communal harmony among the people of all religions.”
Dressed in white khadi dress and caps the Congress workers pledged for the emotional oneness and harmony of all, irrespective of caste, region, religion or language, resolving all differences through dialogue.
Hridyesh said that Rajiv Gandhi’s oft quoted words which inspire every Indian are that India is an old country, but a young nation and like the young everywhere, we are impatient.
She quoted him saying, “I am young and I too have a dream. I dream of an India, strong, independent, self-reliant and at the forefront of the front ranks of the nations of the world in the service of mankind.”
