Cong slams Govt for poor, costly power supply

Sunday, 08 December 2019 | Mrituanjay Kumar | Ranchi

Indian National Congress (INC), National Spokesperson and Supreme Court Advocate, Jayveer Shergill on Saturday attacked the State Government for erratic electricity supply with high rates of power in the State.

Addressing a press meet at the party headquarters in the State Capital, Shergill, said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government has given a jolt to the people of the State through its electricity department. “The Raghubar Government has attacked the general public twice. On one hand it is providing erratic electricity supply and on the other hand rate of electricity is very high. Electricity is more expensive than other states in Jharkhand. The BJP has cut electricity, now the public will cut their votes. On December 23, the BJP Government made dark cities will be changed,” he added.

Shergill said that Modi-Raghubar is not a double engine, but a double punctured government. “On one hand, injections of poverty, unemployment, corruption were injected and on the other hand the common masses was plagued by expensive electricity bills. In the last five years of the BJP rule, electricity prices and energy tariffs have been increased by about 108 per cent in urban areas and 360 per cent in rural areas,” he added.

The party National Spokesperson said that before April 2018, urban consumers used to get electricity at Rs 3 per unit and now in March 2019 they get Rs 6.25 per unit. “Before April 2018, rural consumers used to get Rs 1.25 per unit of electricity and now Rs 5.75 per unit in March 2019. The price of electricity for irrigation and agriculture has increased by 614 per cent,” he added.

Shergill said that power theft is common in the Jharkhand. “A total of 1, 45, 776 houses in Jharkhand are living in the lantern era. According to the data released by the Central Government Jharkhand comes at number 16 in the matter of stopping power theft. Here 31.8 per cent of electricity is stolen. The claim of Modi and Raghubar Government that every house has electricity is only a political stunt,” he added.

Mocking at BJP, Shergil said that BJP has three types of commercials, propaganda and corruption.

Raghubar Das had said that if he could not provide electricity in every house, then he would not ask for votes, but today Jharkhand has the least power supply while Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab have more electricity.

Shergill said that the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, BJP National president, Amit Shah and Raghubar Das only talk on Article 370 but they don’t have courage to talk on skyrocketing prices of onions and today, onion has become a century holder.

INC National Spokesperson, Szarita Laitflang, State Spokesperson Lal Kishorenath Shahdeo and State Spokesperson, Alok Dubey were present on the occasion.
