The Congress party is planning to showcase unity on the 75th birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi with several Congress heavyweights likely to attend the function. The State Congress would hold the 75th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on August 20 on a grand scale. State Congress in-charge RPN Singh will be the Chief Guest at the function to be held at State Congress headquarters.
The Congress leadership through the function will also try to give a unity message as in past few months internal bickering within the Congress has even reached on street. On the first week of August, the two factions of Congress workers fought at the parry office gate with one fraction trying to force its entry into the office while the second group seeking to stop them.
The two factions belong to former State Congress president Ajoy Kumar and other lead by Subodh Kant Sahay and others.
The ruckus outside the Congress party office was controlled after police intervened to disperse the two warring factions. The street fighting at Congress office even reached Congress high command in Delhi with State Congress unit president Ajoy Kumar even tendering his resignation from his post.
Ajoy’s resignation had once again exposed sharp differences among the party leadership with Ajoy in his letter comparing his Congress colleagues with even worst criminals.
The Congress by observing the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi wants to build the bridge. State Congress senior leader and Congress legislative leader in Assembly Alamgir Alam said, “There is no major differences within Congress leadership in State at present as all the differences have been shorted out.” Alalm said, “Our state in-charge RPN Singh, leaders such as Subodh Kant Sahay, Sukhdeo Bhagat and others are going to attend the function.”
The optimistic Congress leader claimed that the issue of finalisation of new name of State Congress president will shorted out this week.
Alam said, “On August 20, the State Congress is going to observe the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi followed by national level function in Delhi on August 22. After August 22, the names of Congress president will be finalised.”
The Congress legislative party leader said that Rajiv Gandhi birth anniversary will be celebrated across the State both at district and block level. The Congress is going to celebrate Gandhi’s birth anniversary as Digital India as the foundation of Digital India was laid by Rajiv Gandhi.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary KC Venugopal through a circular to state unit chiefs and general secretary in-charges has conveyed that Rajiv Gandhi's vision for youth, his impetus on science and technology and move to strengthen Panchayati Raj were exemplary.
