Reacting strongly to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) decision to file FIR against former Chief Minister Harish Rawat in the sting episode, the state unit of Congress party has termed it a conspiracy to muzzle the voice of the opposition in the state. The party has declared its unflinching support for the veteran leader on the issue.
The Vice President of the state unit of the Congress party, Surya Kant Dhasmana said that the CBI has registered a case against Harish Rawat in the case concerned with the conspiracy to topple Congress government on March 17 and 18, 2016. He said that the decision to file FIR on the person whose Government was under threat is a classic example of ‘ Pot calling a kettle black’.
He said that whatever happened in Uttarakhand on March 17 and 18 was a black episode in the political history of Uttarakhand and the BJP leadership was responsible for this shameful episode. Dhasmana said that a democratically elected Government was toppled by brazen use of money power and by shameless influence of authority.
He added that the Supreme Court (SC) took note of this brazen display of power and reinstated the Harish Rawat Government and it also directed that the government should prove its majority on the floor of the house.
In the floor test, the Congress party emerged victorious. Dhasmana asked- How can an event/ action which never happened can become a crime? He said that the Congress MLAs were lured by the BJP to shift their allegiance and the FIR should be slapped on those who were involved in the horse trading. “It is very unfortunate and ironical that the CBI has filed a case against the person who actually was the victim of the whole conspiracy.
This is a blatant attempt and conspiracy to silence the voice of opposition and the Congress party would never tolerate such an attempt. The central agencies like CBI, ED and Income Tax are being used selectively against Congress leaders,’’ he said.
The Congress leader categorically stated that the party is firmly standing behind Harish Rawat. He added that the party would hit the roads in protest against the action of CBI.
