Congress urges CEO to freeze telecom towers during counting

Thursday, 23 May 2019 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

Expressing fear of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) hacking, Congress candidate from Mahasamund constituency Dhanendra Sahu demanded of Chief Electoral Officer Subrat Sahoo to jam all the private telecom towers during the counting process.

A Congress delegation led by him and comprising chairman legal cell Kiranmayi Nayak, state general secretaries Girish Dewangan and Shailesh Nitin Trivedi met the CEO and demanded that all the mobile towers within the 1000 meters circumference of the counting centre be made non-functional by cutting off the power supply and prohibiting use of generators to run them.

The Congress candidate also handed over a memorandum to the CEO in which he claimed that he came to know from party workers that some suspicious persons were seen testing their laptops within the vicinity of Gariaband counting centre.

There is a mobile tower of a private telecom company within 500 meters range from the counting centre of Gariaband and therefore there is a possibility of manipulation in the EVM by the suspected people, he said.

“Hence, it is requested of you to kindly stall all the private telecom towers situated at the vicinity of the counting centers of my constituency i.e. Gariaband, Dhamtari and Mahasamund”, he demanded. Meanwhile, the CEO had assured the Congress candidate Sahu that he would take information from the returning officers of the concerned districts and will take necessary steps.
