A man impersonating as a Deputy Drugs Inspector allegedly looted cash worth Rs 1 lakh from a homoeopathy clinic in the Umarkote area of the district on Friday.
The incident took place at the clinic run by Dr Panchanana Mishra at his residence at Kandagaon Road.
The impersonator carried out a search at the clinic and asked for money from the doctor as fine for expiry of the clinic’s registration date. When Dr Mishra refused to pay, the fraud opened the drawer, snatched cash of Rs 1 lakh and left.
The face of the fraudster as well as visual of frisking by the accused has been captured on the clinic’s
CCTV.
“A person visited the clinic between 12.00 pm and 1.00 pm yesterday when my brother and sister-in-law were alone at home. Posing as the Deputy Drugs Inspector from Bhubaneswar, he entered the house and asked for the clinic licence, which he claimed, was expired. He closed the doors and switched off the camera too. He demanded money from my brother, threatening him to arrest and send him to jail. When my brother refused to pay, he grabbed the cash from the drawer and fled,” said the victim’s brother.
An FIR has been lodged with the Umerkote police in this
connection.
