In order to keep a proper eye on the working of the door to door garbage collection service a control room was inaugurated on Tuesday.  Mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ and municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey along with other officials were present on the occasion. Two compactors were also inaugurated for enhancing the garbage pickup service in the city.

Talking to the media persons, the mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ said, “As before election, we stated that keeping the city clean is one of our main priorities. Keeping the promise and taking help of the new technologies we have now opened a control room for keeping a proper check on the door to door garbage collection service.

Proper monitoring of the garbage will be done which will be checked regularly so that no house remains without the service.” Adding more in this, the project head of the Chennai Municipal Solid Waste Private Limited (CMSWPL) Mohit Dwivedi said, “The control room will help us to keep a proper eye on the service of garbage collection.

The GPS which are installed in every van help us get the proper location of the vehicle. The proper record of the area covered by the vehicle along with the time taken will be in our records. We can also rewind and collect the information for one month.”

Giving information about the compactors Dwivedi said, “MCD had three compactors earlier and now we have two more.

The capacity of one compactor is nearly 18 tonnes each. These new compactors will transfer the garbage to the solid waste management plant situated in Shishambada.”
