The accused has been identified as Arik Rehman alias Raja Mewati, a resident of Delhi’s Mutafabad area, who had got two cases of murder and arms act registered against him in national Capital. Police said that the accused was evading his arrest since 2016.

According to Atul Kumar Thakur, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North-East district, police had received specific inputs on Monday regarding a criminal who would be coming to meet someone in Khajuri Khas area.

“Acting on the tip-off a trap was laid and at around 1:30 PM when the police team saw the suspect coming he was signaled to stop but he opened fire on police team,” said the DCP.

“Constable Manoj was hit by a bullet in his left leg which was fired by the accused. In retaliation, police also opened fire and Raja Mewati was also hit in his left toe while he was trying to flee. Both were rushed to GTB hospital where they are going under treatment and their condition is said to be stable,” said the DCP.

“A case under appropriate sections is being registered. Further investigation is going on,” said the DCP.
