Commissioner of Police Sudhanshu Sarangi on Tuesday felicitated Bebina Mahalik for thrashing two Road Romeos and forcing them to do sit-ups in public in the city on Sunday.
A video of the entire incident has gone viral on social media. Police said that the girl was felicitated for her courage to raise her voice against eve-teasing.
“Most of the time victims remain silent due to social stigma. But the girl not only defended herself but also taught a lesson to the eve-teasers,” said a police official.
The incident took place when she was riding a scooter and the two youths followed her on a bike and passed vulgar comments at her.
Later, the girl thrashed the duo and forced them to do sit ups in the public.
The accused were seen begging apology with folded hands.
