Marking the National Road Safety Week, the Delhi Traffic Police on Thursday went on air on the FM radio city to educate the commuters about road safety and security rules. A total of 1015 tent cards were distributed in 106 restaurants of Delhi.

“A programme was also conducted near the Lady Shri Ram College where two wheeler riders were sensitised about use of safety head gear (helmet). 50 two wheeler riders were distributed helmets and Road Safety literature was also distributed to commuters and the drivers of public s vehicles like buses, TSRs. E-rickshaws,” said Alok Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic).

The programme went live on air from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. Considering the movement of large number of bicycle riders on Mathura Road, CV Raman Marg and Sukhdev Vihar a special drive was launched to paste retroreflective tapes on bicycles to improve their visibility under poor light conditions as theyare one of the most vulnerable category of road users involved in serious road accidents.

A special workshop was conducted near Japanese Park, Rohini to sensitise the drivers of E-rickshaw and Gramin Sewas about following traffic rules, not to overload their vehicles and allowing only the authorised person to drive their vehicles.

The drivers of DTC buses at ISBT, Kashmere Gate were also sensitizedabout road safety and following traffic rules by the staff of Civil Line Traffic Circle. They also pasted retro reflective tapes at the rear side of bicycles to improve their visibility inlow light conditions.

One of the star attractions of the road safety awareness campaign of DelhiPolice has been Head Constable Sandeep from Rohini District. After facing many personal tragedies in road accidents the Head Constable got motivated and have been consistently working in the field of bringing road safety awareness in various parts of Delhi since last four years. This year he has been sensitizing road users including motorists, pedestrians and bicycle users at ITO crossing.

The dedication of the Head Constable is such, that his twin kids (10 years old son and daughter) and 13 year old nephew also joined the mission and braved the rain and cold weather and sensitized the road users at the intersection. While sensitizing hundreds of passengers on board in various buses the slogan given by the Head Constable “Sadak Suraksha Apnayenge,Desh Ko Khush Haal Banayenge” became a rage in the area.
