The inaugural sitting of the monsoon session of UP Legislative Council was lost in din as Samajwadi Party members stalled proceedings of the House over deteriorating law and order in the state and other issues, forcing its adjournment on Thursday.
The SP legislators in Assembly also staged a dharna over similar issues, including registration of cases against senior party leader and MP Mohammad Azam Khan.

Earlier, the House paid tributes to six former members who died in the inter-session period — Devi Dayal Shastri, Tanveer Haidar Usmani, Madhuban Singh, Anwar Ahmad, Harprasad Tiwari and Dr YD Singh.
In between, a SP MLC from Bahraich, Haji Imlaq Khan, fell ill in the chamber of the leader of opposition and was treated by doctors for rising blood sugar and blood pressure.

Speaking to reporters, SP state chief Naresh Uttam said, “The law and order machinery in the state has come to a grinding halt and false cases are being registered against SP workers and leaders.”
He alleged that almost three dozen fake cases had been registered against senior SP leader Azam Khan.
“We will raise these issues in the House and protest against the repressive policies of this government,” Uttam said.
