Court awards 20-yr jail term to rapist

A Special POCSO Court here convicted a rape accused and awarded him 20 years jail term in connection with a case that took place in June last year. The convict Prakash Jena hails from Chittal village under Soro police limits.

According to  the charges against Jena, he committed the offence against a minor, a Class-IX student, who was residing at her maternal uncle's house(Chittal), when she had gone out to answer nature’s call on June 5, 2018.

The victim after returning from her house narrated her ordeals to her parents.

The father of the victim had lodged an FIR with Soro police alleging  that her daughter was not only sexually assaulted but threatened of dire consequences by the accused.

The accused Jena while was arrested by police following investigation of the case, the final charge sheet was filed in October  last year.

The court after cross examining all witnesses and evidences  pronounced the judgment on Monday.

Additional public prosecutor Pranab Panda was conducting the case on behalf of Government.

In another case ,  which occurred in 2012, a court of Additional Sessions Judge, on Monday,  convicted a rape accused and sentenced him to seven years of imprisonment along with Rs 5,000 fine.

The convict Ram Singh  of Parakhi village under Sadar police station had committed the offence against a 9- year- old girl of same village.

The case was conducted by APP Utpal Mohanty.
