Court orders Gzb police to arrest SHO, colleagues

Wednesday, 09 January 2019 | SP Singh | GHAZIABAD

A local court in Ghaziabad on Tuesday ordered  the district police authorities to book Station House Officer (SHO) and his colleagues

for allegedly torturing and killing a woman suspect during detention at Tronika City Police Station.

The order named Shyam Veer Singh the then SHO of Tronika city police station, Sub Inspector Jitendra Chauhan, Lalit, Rajeswar, Sunny and other policemen of the same police station.

The court of chief judicial magistrate in its order mentioned that the suspect Sarita Tyagi who was taken in to custody was found killed is evidently proved that she was tortured to kill in police custody.

“After she was taken in custody at 3.30 pm on May 13, the policemen of Tronika city police station tortured her in the lockup and she was rushed to hospital next day where doctors had already declared her brought dead,” said the court order.

“This duration of time of 12 hours was proved that she was in police custody and surprisingly methyl alcohol was found in her body despite remaining in police custody.  So this is evidently proved that she was administered methyl alcohol and was beaten so badly that her ribs and collarbone were fractured. So they are liable to be booked under sections 325, 328, 302, 506 and 201 of Indian Penal Code (IPC),” said the court order.

The hospital report stated that she was brought dead and during postmortem report her collar bone, third rib were found fractured. “A poisonous substance was found in her body during the autopsy,” said the medical report.

He daughter Maneka Tyagi told that her mother was picked up from the home in the afternoon in full public view. She was implicated in a false case, dumped in lockup, beaten and when she asked for water was given methyl alcohol during torture.  Her postmortem report suggests all such injuries were the outcome of severe torture of an elderly lady.

From May 2018 to this January 8, 2019, during more than 8 months deceased daughter had been approaching post to pillar to post but no officer could deliver her justice. Now she partly succeeded to get the order to book all the concerned police officers liable for murder of suspect in police custody added aggrieved mother.

The lawyer Khalid Khan said that the police created obstacles in the case on several occasions but our client was adamant to get the justice and to fight against the atrocities of the police.
