Criminal nabbed after gunfight in Cuttack

A notorious criminal was injured in an exchange of fire with police at Jagatpur in the city on Wednesday. The criminal was identified as Manoj Patra alias Amit.

Acting on a tipoff, a joint team of the Jagatpur police and Special Squad tried to intercept and nab Manoj. But spotting the police he fired at them in a bid to escape from the spot.

But in the retaliatory firing, he suffered gunshot injuries on his leg and was subsequently nabbed.

Later, he was rushed to the SCB Medical College Hospital here. Two police personnel also suffered minor injuries in the incident.

Police seized a gun, two bullets, four cartridges and a car from his possession. Police said Manoj was involved in as many as 18 criminal cases in various police stations in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri.
