Criminal wanted in 15 cases arrested

The Special Cell of Delhi Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested 30-year-old notorious criminal wanted in around 15 cases of robbery, snatching and under provisions of  Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in national Capital.

Police said the accused, Salman alias Daant Tuta in June this year had jumped from a running train near Agra after removing handcuffs while he was being escorted by Delhi Police to Delhi from Hyderabad.

According to Pramod Singh Kushwaha, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Special Cell, after the escape of Salman from the police custody, Special Cell received specific inputs that Salman, a resident of Bhajanpura and also declared a Bad Character by Bhajanpura police station, has made many hideouts in Delhi and its peripherals.

"On the intervening night of September 11 and 12, acting on a tip-off Salman was arrested from Akshardham area while he had come there to meet one of his associates. On Cursory checking police recovered one single shot pistol of .315 and three live cartridges from the possession of the accused. Subsequently, a case under the appropriate sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at Special Cell police station," said the DCP.

"During interrogation, the accused revealed that he has been committing crime for the last 17 years. He was first arrested in the year 2003 in a case of theft. Thereafter, he started committing robberies and snatchings along with his associates. He is previously involved and arrested in more than 31 cases of robbery, dacoity, snatching, attempt to murder, hurt, assault, arms act, MCOCA in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh," said the DCP.

"Last, he was arrested in the year 2017, as he was wanted in a case of MCOCA and eight other cases of robbery, dacoity and snatching in Delhi and Hyderabad. He was then carrying a reward of Rs one lakh on his arrest," said the DCP adding that Salman has been taken on police custody and further efforts to apprehend his associates have been initiated.
