After the coaching class inferno in Surat last month, the Uttarakhand state administration started checking whether coaching classes and other commercial enterprises have adopted necessary fire safety measures.
Till June 4, Dehradun Chief Fire Officer (CFO) SK Rana had issued 174 notices to several coaching institutes and commercial enterprises.
CFO Rana said, “We will continue to conduct this checking. Some institutes have started installing fire extinguishers, but that alone is not enough.
For those who are giving positive response on adopting fire security measures, we will allow them more time.
For the rest, a letter will be sent to the department concerned through the office of Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police for further strict action.”
It is pertinent to mention here that the Uttarakhand Fire and Emergency Services do not have the power to issue challan or seal the building as of now.
A proposal for the amendment of the enforcement of rule and regulations for fire safety is under consideration at administration level.
