Saturday, 23 November 2019 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

In a bid to save environment and stop the use of plastic items such as polythene, bag and poly pack, the Delhi Prisons has set up milk dispensing containers in association with the Mother Dairy. About 5000 poly packs per day will be discontinued.

The main objective behind the initiative is to make the jails environment friendly and to minimize the usage of single use plastic inside the prison. Currently, 15 Mother Dairy Integrated containers (IC’s) with a capacity of 200 litres for dispensing milk have been set up in different jails situated in Mandoli with active support from Mother Dairy.

The Integrated Containers (ICs) were inaugurated on Friday by Sandeep Goel, Director General (Prisons) along with Sangram Chaudhary, Managing Director (MD), Mother Dairy in Mandoli Jails. The event was also attended by senior officials such as Raj Kumar, AIG (Prisons) and Rajesh Chopra, DIG (Prisons).

By this initiative, Mandoli Prisons Complex has discontinued use of about 5000 poly packs of ½ litres per day instead approximately 2500 litres milk would now be dispensed through these ICs.

The DG Prisons said that similar initiative will be replicated soon in other Jail complexes in Tihar and Rohini. “In addition to installation of ICs, authorities at Mandoli jail have also discontinued single use plastic pack usage in Bread, Biscuits and other bakery products for in-house consumption. These bakery items are now being supplied in re-usable containers as an environment friendly move,” said an officials.
