Flight operations were disrupted at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport due to low visibility triggered by the dense fog in several parts of the national Capital.
Operations of 450 flights were impacted on Friday morning, an airport official said. The flights could not take off between 5.30 am and 1pm as the runway visual range (RVR) was not conducive for the take off and the landing as well.
At the IGI airport, the minimum runway visibility required to take off is 125 metres. It has come down drastically and that impeded flight operations, IGI airport officials said.
“Around 97 per cent of these 450 flights were either departing or arriving beyond their scheduled time due to dense fog that remained till around 10.20am. Rest were either diverted or cancelled,” an official at the IGI airport said on Friday.
Departures were largely put on hold between 5.30 am and 10.20 am. Arrivals were happening only intermittently between 6am and 7.20 am, another official said.
