Taking cognisance of the gang rape and murder of a young lady in Hyderabad, the Dehradun police is also going to take effective measures from its level. Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Arun Mohan Joshi said that preventing and tackling crimes related to women has always been among the top priorities of the police. He further said that the police have always been encouraging citizens in need to call on dial 112, especially during the night time.
SSP Joshi said, “We are working on taking more steps towards women safety. For the same purpose we are trying to minimise the response time on all women related crimes.
The option to call on dial 112 has always been encouraged if a person who is not feeling safe is in need of transportation. The necessary steps will be taken immediately.” It is pertinent to mention here that many citizens- especially women in the district have complained about the lack of proper public transport during night hours. Women have claimed that taking private cabs or autos is not only costly but also does not feel like a safe option. In most cases, they either keep talking to someone on phone or send their live location to a trust worthy person.
The lack of public transport becomes prominent and more inconvenient in the suburban areas, where the visibility of police force is also less. It is also important to mention here that in maximum emergency cases, police are the first respondents. So if in crisis, the nearest police station or patrolling unit will be the first response team to reach the site or complainant in most of the cases.
