Discussion held over spinal health

Sunday, 19 May 2019 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

Spine health is very important for a healthy body. The critical functions of movement, support, protection and co-ordination are controlled by the spine.

Out of an array of diseases prevailing in India, spine injuries and deformities have been gaining momentum because of bad lifestyle, infrastructure in cities and overall a stressful living.

This was expressed by Oncology and Spine specialists from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital (KDAH), Mumbai who were in Raipur to meet leading doctors of the region and share their knowledge-expertise to help bridge gaps in patient care.

Doctors from KDAH Dr. Archana Shetty, Consultant - Breast Onco-surgeon and Dr. Vishal Peshattiwar, Head - Spine Surgery initiated talks with the IMA chapter in Bhilai Durg and the local medical fraternity.

Similar conversations were initiated at the IMA Raipur chapter last month as well.

Dr Archana Shetty, talking to reporters said- “India has a predominant young population and hence the numbers of women being diagnosed with breast cancer is only going to increase. It is the most common cancer among women in urban India.”

However, the deaths due to breast cancer can definitely be reduced by earlier detection as well as targeted therapies.

“We are now diagnosing these cancers in the earlier stages and can offer better treatment, which is not as debilitating as before”, she added.
