Annoyed by Congress national general secretary (incharge UP East) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s decision to bank on youths for revival of the party in Uttar Pradesh by sidelining the seniors, the veterans in the party plan to bring all the old warriors under one roof before deciding any future strategy.
A meeting was called in this regard in the house of a former parliamentarian in Gomti Nagar on Thursday but to avoid any controversy, it was described as a programme to pay tributes to former prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary, which is celebrated as Children’s Day all over the country.
“We have spent our lives working for the Congress. How can we indulge in any activity that is against the interests of the Congress,” said former MP Santosh Singh, while claiming that the meeting was called only to remember the first prime minister of the country and pay tributes to him.
It may be mentioned here that majority of those who attended the meeting were former MPs, MLAs, MLCs and even ministers who have been ignored by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Sources said that UPCC president Ajay Kumar ‘Lallu’ was aware of the meeting and had informed Priyanka Gandhi Vadra about it. However, before initiating any action, the leadership would wait and watch for future strategy of newly-formed veterans group in the party.
