The verbal spat between two Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs– Pranav Singh ‘Champion’ from Khanpur and Deshraj Karnwal from Jhabreda was resolved on Thursday after the duo met in the residence of Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.
According to the party office bearers, both the MLAs were clearly warned against doing anything that violates the party’s discipline. On their part, the two MLAs considered the dispute closed and assured that they would work together.
After days of the two legislators leveling allegations and counter-allegations at each other, the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat called them to his official residence here on Thursday. The BJP State general secretary Naresh Bansal was also present during the meet held on the occasion.
According to party office bearers, the chief minister expressed displeasure at the whole incident. The two legislators were warned against indulging in any action that violates the party discipline in the future. Champion and Karnwal considered their dispute closed and assured that they would work cordially while ensuring that such a situation does not arise in the future.
It will be recalled that while the Khanpur MLA has been accusing his Jhabreda counterpart of using a fake caste certificate, the Jhabreda MLA has questioned the Khanpur MLA’s qualifications, stating that he was no champion.
Earlier, last week Champion had challenged Karnwal to a bout at a stadium to settle their dispute. On the other hand, while gesturing the pressing of a trigger with his finger, Karnwal had stated in a Press conference that this was how disputes were now settled, not by wrestling. He had also challenged Singh to publicly list the developmental works he had facilitated in his constituency. More recently, on Tuesday, the Khanpur MLA had stated that BR Ambedkar should be accorded the title of ‘father of the nation’ instead of MK Gandhi. He had also demanded that the picture of Gandhi on currency notes should be replaced by that of Ambedkar’s. Earlier, on Monday, the BJP State unit had issued notices to the two MLAs seeking an explanation from them.
