Tuesday, 16 July 2019 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

Now, travel will be easier for the passengers, especially those coming from rural areas of South-West part as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) began trial run on the upcoming 4.28 kilometre (KM) long 'Grey Corridors' -Dwarka to Najafgarh section. Also, after Rajouri Garden and Janakpuri West, Dwarka station will become the third major interchange facility in the western part of city. The section is expected to be ready for the public by September this year.

With opening of this section, the Dwarka Metro station will become an interchange station between Blue Line and Grey Line by connecting the upcoming stations of the new corridor — Nangli and Najafgarh. However, the upcoming Grey Line will have six stations connecting till Dhansa which will serve the entire Najafgarh area.

"The first two stations Dwarka and Nangli will be elevated while the Nazafgarh will be an underground station. This section is being further extended by another 1.18 kilometres till Dhansa Stand, which is slated for completion by December, 2020," said a DMRC official.

"This will be third major interchange facility in the western part of Delhi. Once the station will operate, travel will be easy for the entire Dwarka Sub-city as well as the people of the Nazafgarh and the nearby rural areas. Currently, the transport facility is very less in this place and the people completely rely on public transport such as bus, Grahmin Seva to reach Dwarka mode Metro Station and the area is very congested and has no parking facility. Moreover, if a passenger comes from his vehicle, have to travel far till Dwarka to park the vehicle and board the train," said a Senior DMRC official.

With major interchange facility, Dwarka station will be first station with 'Five platform facility among all the 198 Metro Stations. "This will be the first station with five platforms and the station is like very different from the other stations as it will connect the Grey Line in T-Shape with Dwarka station and straight concourse and then the five platforms. Further, DMRC has also decided to create the Najafgarh station as a train depot with both the facility of 'Standard-gauge and Broadband-Guage.
